The Need To Know About Therapy

FAQ’s

How does Sliding Scale Work? How do I know if there are any openings?

Sliding Scale is a discounted price per therapy session, depending on what you can afford. I ask you how much you can budget for weekly therapy, and we discuss an appropriate amount. All I ask is that you let me know if you can pay more or full price so that I can adjust the open spots for sliding scale clients.

To check for open spots on the sliding scale, you can find the current availability listed under my services. If all slots are taken, I'll make a note of that as well. If you don't see the information you need, feel free to reach out via email, text, or call, and I'll provide you with the latest availability.

Do you take insurance?

I do, and through Headway, I can accept BlueCross and BlueShield Texas, Aetna, Cigna, United Health Care, Oscar Health, and Oxford.

I do offer out-of-network service through. After our session, I can provide you with a Superbill, which you can then turn into your insurance. Your insurance may reimburse you, as you still have to pay for the session at the time of your appointment. However, I am not responsible if your insurance chooses not to.

Are there any benefits to not using insurance?

Yes! Insurance companies want your diagnosis, which will become part of your medical record. They can also audit your therapy progress, which could invade your privacy. Lastly, they control your treatment and can determine how many and frequently your sessions can be.

What you get from therapy without insurance is more secure confidentiality, less on your medical record, and more freedom on how you would like your treatment to be.

Policy on Cancelations

I do require you to have a credit card on file for SimplePractice. However, cancellations at least a day before a session (full 24 hours) will have no fee unless repeated.

For same-day cancellations, you will pay half the cost of your session. Exceptions may be given for emergency cases.

If you don't show up to a scheduled appointment without notification, you will pay the full fee for the session you had scheduled. Again, exceptions may be given for emergency cases.

After three same-day cancellations or no-shows, I will refer you out. I do this because you reserved a time slot unavailable for other clients when you cancel last minute or do not show up. I want to be respectful of your time and mine.

I’m tired of teletherapy. Can we meet in person?

Currently, I am only able to do teletherapy.

How do I prepare for my first session?

Sessions are virtual, so it's essential to have a space where you feel comfortable talking without being overheard. It would be best to have a quiet area without distractions and access to a webcam so I can see who you are and hear what you're saying.I just wanted to let you know that

Other than that, there will be forms sent to you via email that you will need to fill out before your appointment. And that's it for preparations!

What are sessions like?

The sessions are 50 or 90-minute video sessions. We will meet using Google Meet, and you will receive the invitation to join the meeting at least 10 minutes before the session.

When you are logged on, we will talk about payment and any questions you may have before starting.

Then, we will talk about whatever you want to talk about, the problem you are dealing with or trying to unravel.

Then, towards the end of the session, I will ask you if you have anything you would like to put in the note to discuss next time and schedule your next appointment.

If you like having homework or something to work on between sessions, we can discuss and develop a plan together.
