About Katherine, LMFT
(She/Her)
We should all be able to live authentically.
There was a time when you felt good about who you were. You felt connected and safe with others and seemed to be happier. Don't you wish you could have something similar to that again?
I'm Katherine, and I help couples and families just like you: ones that have it within them to feel connected and valued for who they are but need the support to get there.
I help my clients find their ideal selves by equipping them with the tools they need to realize their self-worth, gain confidence, and establish good boundaries and communication.
Many of today's solutions for the LGBTQ+ population in therapy are prescriptive "follow these things to be better," without considering that everyone has different ideas of what "being better" looks like.
Everyone has unique needs and desires for themselves and their relationships. Therefore, our sessions together must center around your individual goals.
My Affirmative Approach
First, we look at where you want to go and identify what prevents you from living as your ideal self. An example of this may be not having the open and loving relationship you want with your family or partner due to a lack of good communication.
Then, we work on getting everyone in the same room. At the same time, this may be difficult at first due to possible pain or distrust. However, I've found that getting everyone together to discuss how to best support one another and communicate is the most effective approach.
We will move at your pace the whole time and only ever work where you are comfortable going. Through our work together, you'll have confidence in yourself and the self-respect needed to communicate your needs and desires with others effectively.
I am dedicated to helping people in the LGBTQ+ community, specifically teens and young adults, with their families.
My marriage and family therapy training means I have the expertise you need and deserve to heal the relationships you value most. But at the end of the day, you want to know that you're working with someone who "gets" what it means to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community struggling with learning to love and value yourself, right?
I get it because the people closest to me have been through it, too. I am on the asexual spectrum, and my wife is nonbinary; trust me when I say that these issues are something that I am passionate about working through with you.
I know that it's hard to think you are worth the "extra work" to not only be understood but loved by those closest to you. This is why I want to be clear when I say you deserve to have the support you want, whether it's getting your pronouns right or just feeling comfortable enough to share about your relationship.
You deserve the effort, and you are valued.
So when we work together, you won't just get a trained therapist. Instead, you'll get someone who truly understands what you're going through and wants the best for you.
